Digital Accessibility Status
This website fully complies with the appendix of the Digital Accessibility Law of April 4, 2019 on the digital accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public entities.
Non-accessible content
Content not covered by the law
- The copies of archival materials presented on the site are not available digitally. If you need any of them in accessible form, please contact, the archive holding the document, and indicate which document you are referring to. The Law on Digital Accessibility does not apply to elements of websites whose content presents archival materials within the meaning of Article 1 of the Law of July 14, 1983 on National Archival Resources and Archives (Journal of Laws of 2019, items 553 and 730). The creation of a digitally accessible presentation would entail the loss of the authenticity of the reproduced item or is not possible for technical reasons (inability to read illegible handwriting or foreign language, inability to describe maps, plans, designs and drawings in full text) or would involve excessive costs.
We made the declaration on the basis of a self-assessment based on the Checklist for Testing Digital Website Accessibility.

Architectural accessibility
The National Digital Archives - 1 Hankiewicza St., Warsaw
The building housing the NDA (administered by the Archive of New Files) is located on a slight rise above ground level. The difference between the street level and the first floor with the main entrance is about 2.5 meters. The main entrance to the building for visitors is located on the west side on Hankiewicza Street opposite Banach Halls.
When trying to get into the building through the main entrance, people with disabilities encounter the following architectural obstacles: stairs leading from street level to the main courtyard (12 steps of 13 cm each); a gate at the top of the stairs with a width of approx. 85 cm; the courtyard paved with cobblestones; stairs from the main courtyard to the first floor section with a visit registration point (security post) - 6 stairs of about 12 cm each; the design of the main door - double doors without a locking function, with a wing width of 80 cm, opened mechanically; opening the second wing requires the use of assistance from the building staff. No solutions were used to level architectural barriers, in particular, the building has no ramps or ramps for wheelchairs.
In the building itself, people with disabilities will encounter further architectural difficulties. Directly behind the main door is a vestibule and another swing door. In the four-story building (basement, first floor and two floors), personal movement is mainly by stairs. The entrance to the main staircase is restricted by a grating (about 110 cm wide) with an access control system. The main staircase does not have wheelchair transport facilities installed. A person with a disability who wants to get to the second floor of the NDA Reading Room has to climb 23 stairs, each about 14 cm high.
A passenger elevator operates in the auxiliary shaft of the staircase. It is not suitable for transporting people with disabilities - the shaft is very narrow, the design of the cabin makes it impossible to transport wheelchairs (width of the cabin door: 80 cm, size of the cabin - depth: 80 cm, width: 120 cm).
Access to the building is possible from the unloading space. On the north and south sides, the unloading space is accessed by two ramps designed to handle deliveries. The ramps are made of paving stones. The unloading space consists of a ramp adjacent to the archive storage building. From the unloading space it is possible to get to the user registration point through a technical passage. The registration point is accessed by stairs (4 stairs in the plan of a slight curve with a height of about 15 cm each and a step width of 14 to 30 cm). The building administrator does not assume the use of the unloading space as a passageway for archive users. In this part of the building, no architectural or technical solutions have been applied to allow free movement of people with disabilities.
The building administrator has designated and adapted, within the limits of the building's architectural capabilities, a restroom for use by people with disabilities. It is located on the 1st floor, next to the auxiliary staircase. Access to the toilet for people with disabilities is limited - among other things, there is no handicapped-adapted walkway leading from the registration desk to the toilet. The adaptation of the restroom itself also does not meet the requirements provided for rooms for people with disabilities (high mounted fixtures, light switches, etc.).
The building has no designated parking spaces for the disabled.
It is possible to enter the building and all its rooms with an assistance dog and a guide dog.
There is no Braille signage in the building, nor is there contrast or enlarged print signage for the blind and visually impaired.
Communication and information accessibility
An online Polish Sign Language (PJM) interpreter is available in the Reading Room of the National Digital Archive. The service is available during NAC business hours. The service is free for deaf people.
There is a portable induction loop in the building. It can be used in the Reading Room, at the customer service desk.
