In 1924 Nikodym passed his PhD exams at the Warsaw University. After that he moved to Cracow, where he was employed at the Jagiellonian University. The Nikodyms (Otton and his wife Stanislawa) spent the academic year 1926/27 at the Sorbonne and upon his retur to Poland, in June 1927 Otton obtained his habilitation at the Warsaw University. In the period 1930-1945 the Nikodyms lived in Warsaw; until beginning of World War II both lectured at the University. In 1945 Nikodym was promoted to a professor at the Technical University of Cracow. In 1946 Nikodym and his wife Stanislawa left for Belgium and France where he began his work on mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics.
